It's true that Andalusia is increasingly associated with the mountains, but when we talk about its beautiful villages, or any other corner, this region of Spain is most often associated with the sea or its large cities. However, as we have already seen in our list of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia, many of these places are to be found in the mountains and sierras that stretch across this region.

Almonaster la Real, Huelva

This village is located in the Huelva sierra and, along with other 14 hamlets, boasts a rich natural heritage, as well as a great historical and cultural heritage and a wealth of monuments.

Bubión, Granada

This village awaits us 1300 metres above sea level, in the middle of Granada's Alpujarra. It is part of a region known as the Poqueira ravine, where there are other more well-known villages such as Pampaneira and Capileira.

Casares, Málaga

This is not only one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Andalusia, but also one of the population centres that can boast the greatest heritage.  It has been declared a Historic-Artistic Complex

Cazorla, Jaén

Located in the Alto Guadalquivir county, between rich mountainous terrain, Cazorla forms part of the Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Sierras Natural Park, the largest protected area in Spain, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1983. Its streets are lined with traditional houses, stately homes and a large number of monuments of noteworthy artistic interest.

Constantina, Seville

Constantina's history also dates back to antiquity: the remains of the village have been found in nearby caves. In this village in Seville, on the other hand, the most palpable traces of the past are of Arab origin, especially in the Moorish quarter. Its old town has been declared a Site of Historic-Artistic Interest and its castle, of Arabic origin, a Site of Cultural Interest.

Fuenteheridos, Huelva

Set in the middle of a thick forest, the old town of Fuenteheridos has also been declared a Historic-Artistic Site. Its streets are filled with interesting temples.

Grazalema, Cadiz

At 900 metres above sea level, located in the sierra of the same name, Grazalema is one of the rainiest villages in Spain, if not the rainiest. Grazalema's surroundings are fantastic, and from the village's various lookouts you can enjoy spectacular views of the sierra.

Istán, Málaga

This village in Málaga, halfway between the Costa del Sol and the Sierra de las Nieves, is one of the most beautiful in Andalusia. It has been nicknamed "the spring of the Costa del Sol".

Ohanes, Almería

In the Alpujarra region of Almería, Ohanes is surprising at first glance, set into the mountainside in the middle of the Sierra Nevada National Park, almost 1,000 metres above sea level. Like Istán, Ohanes was also the scene of battles between Arabs and Christians.

Parauta, Málaga

In the west of the province of Málaga, Parauta is another of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia and probably one of the most unknown. Located in the valley of the River Genal, here you can discover various freshwater springs that flow directly from the river. In this place, a total connection with nature takes place.

Segura de la Sierra, Jaén

Located in the Sierra de Segura region, in the north-east of Jaén, Segura de la Sierra lies at an altitude of 1,140 metres. It has been declared a Historic-Artistic Complex and a Picturesque Landscape. It is true that the view from almost any corner of the village, which has several population centres scattered across the sierra, is magnificent.

Zahara de la Sierra, Cadiz

This village in Cádiz, located on the slopes of the Sierra del Jaral, within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, has always been considered one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia. Zahara de la Sierra has been declared a Historic Site. It has preserved its criss-crossing streets, its castle and parts of the wall dating back to its foundation as an Arab villa.

Zuheros, Cordoba

In the south-east of the province of Córdoba, creating a natural border between the Sierra Subbética Natural Park and the Córdoba countryside, Zuheros surprises with its beauty from another time. Narrow, winding streets and squares that take travellers away from their routine. It has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest in the Historic-Artistic Ensemble category. The nearby Cueva de los Murciélagos (Bat Cave) is an important archaeological site and an ideal visit for cave and history enthusiasts.
