Sotogrande
The little Andalusian port of Grimaud !
Sotogrande may not be a term you're familiar with, but it's likely to grow in popularity over the coming years. Why should it? It's a town in the south of Spain that exudes prestige and luxury. Just like the most exclusive seaside resorts, Sotogrande is a tourist destination that appeals for its luxury and charm.
A destination favoured by a select clientele
Its highly selective atmosphere is reserved for the privileged few who have the opportunity to stay in the heart of a private site in Andalusia. In 1962, American entrepreneur Joseph McMicking created from scratch this exclusive enclave reserved for a very select clientele.
Sotogrande is located in the municipality of San Roque in the province of Cadiz and covers an area of 20 km2. At its extremities are charming villages such as Torreguadiaro and exceptional natural landscapes such as the Sotogrande Reserve. The resort was originally founded on the foundations of a golf club, a sport that is now widely practised by the residents of the luxurious villas.
With its air of American residences, Sotogrande offers both an idyllic setting with its openness to the sea and its beautiful beaches, and its proximity to the Sierra Carbonera mountains. The region is still very unspoilt, with miles of beaches and moorland stretching all the way to Gibraltar.
Activities between land and sea
Thanks to its ideal location, Sotogrande is a very popular resort for sports enthusiasts. Depending on your preferred discipline, discover the region in a different way with lively activities. You'll also find a wide range of shops and restaurants.
Water sports to discover the Spanish coast
Of course, there's no need to list the many water sports available in Sotogrande. Kayaking, snorkelling, kitesurfing and surfing are just some of the water sports on offer.
On land, it's all the same, with horse-riding, hiking and mountain biking on offer, but above all, golf is the dominant discipline. On horseback, there are some great rides to discover the splendid natural parks of Los Alcornocales and the site of the River Guadiaro. By bike, there are numerous cycle routes to discover the region's landscapes, the best known of which is the Ruta del Canal del Agua.
If you prefer to relax, the golden sandy beaches will delight you with their magnificent views over Gibraltar and Morocco. The main beach, Sotogrande, stretches for 2km, giving you plenty of time to relax and soak up the sun.
Sotogrande: a golfing paradise
Sotogrande is a land where golf is deeply rooted in tradition. The town boasts 7 world-renowned golf clubs with top-quality facilities. Whether you're an amateur or a fervent golfer, there's no doubt that you'll be charmed. You'll probably be keen to discover the course that hosted the prestigious Ryder Cup.
